The Company

Razor Limited was founded in 2009 by Jamie Hinton and Steve Trotter and are a tech company who co-create digital products and systems

The Issues

At their initial Springboard mentoring session in March 2016, the main issue they wanted to discuss with their Entrepreneur in Residence Julian Kynaston was their strategy for growth and how to approach some of the challenges that they would face along the way..

At the time of the first Springboard mentoring session the company was called Razor Jam Limited and had a large number of relatively small accounts and had a team of 12.

Springboard advice given

Julian honed in on their value proposition very quickly and gave valuable insight on where their focus should be. He provided strategic and tactical advice that they immediately put into action.

Having the kind of marketing agency experience Julian has was a key benefit and one of the reasons they were keen on choosing Julian. He was very open on his experiences and ups and downs, and the hard lessons learned were something they took away as an aim to avoid.

The key advice was to aim for bigger fish and Julian gave them the confidence to go for bigger accounts and some thoughts on how to do this having done that himself.

Progress since the advice was given

Over the following 12 months Razor Jam changed its name to Razor and began to reposition the business to demonstrate their focus on solving large scale business problems. Staff numbers have increased to 15 and sales are predicted to increase by 45%.

Julian Kynaston has joined the board of Razor as a Non Executive Director and is providing them with ongoing advice and support.
