International hearing implant manufacturer and Connect Yorkshire member MED-EL has opened an office in Sheffield.
The Austria-headquartered company relocated its team to a new base in Chapeltown as it marked its 25th year in the UK.
To celebrate the move, MED-EL hosted an open day attended by local companies, councillors and some of those helped by the firm’s cochlear implant technology.
Cllr Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business and Investment, said: “I was astounded to see the technology that MED-EL have created and to see what an amazing impact it can have on people suffering with hearing loss.
“We’re really pleased to welcome MED-EL to Sheffield and I believe this global business is a welcome addition to Sheffield’s already esteemed/prestigious businesses.”
MED-EL UK’s managing director, Cassandra Brown, commented: “ We are thrilled to have received such a warm welcome from local businesses in Sheffield and it’s great to be part of this well-established community of companies with an enviable reputation for entrepreneurialism and world class products and services.
“Our mission is to overcome hearing loss as a barrier to communication and quality of life and our strong and consistent focus on research as a privately-owned company enables us to do this and put our patients at the heart of everything we do here in Sheffield and further afield.”
