Who would have thought that 3 school friends would create a company which 10 years later turned over $20m+ and had offices in Leeds, Boston and London. The company, Litmus, helps companies build, test and improve their email marketing campaigns and has over 100 employees of which 66% work from home.
David Smalley, who was one of the 3 founders, lives in Yorkshire; the other 2 founders moved to Boston in 2009 in order to grow the business in the US. Litmus Live is the conference they run in London, Boston and San Francisco which brings together 3000 of the smartest email professionals to learn more about their craft.
In 2016 the 3 founders disposed of a stake in the business to a private equity house for $49m and in Jan 2018 David ceased to be operational but remains a director.
