Larry Gould

Larry J Gould was born in Leeds, England. From starting his career as a 15-year-old high school drop-out, Larry went on to create two multi-million dollar international businesses.

Larry is the award-winning Founder, Chairman and Irresistible Consultant for thebigword Group which he formed in 1980 as a recruitment and language service provider.

Larry has since grown thebigword Language technology business into one of the top 20 language companies in the world with revenue in excess of $100m. thebigword works with many of the world’s biggest and best-known brands and a growing number of large US and UK government organisations.  The group has 14 offices around the world, employs over 500 staff and a network of more than 20,000 linguists.  Every month, thebigword handles one million minutes of telephone interpreting, 17,000 face-to-face interpreting assignments and half a billion words of translation.

Larry received the Eichner Award in 2019 which recognises his outstanding contribution to the professional language services industry.  Larry received the National Training Awards, Training and Enterprise Council Award and was also awarded Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year North and Midlands for Professional and Support Services.

Passionate about training and personal development, Larry partnered with Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Becketts University) to develop an online comprehensive training company for linguists. Larry was proud to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University in recognition of the work he did with the university to create the International School of Linguists.

As well as successful entrepreneur Larry is a published author and authored the book Great Retirement Great Sex – How to Retire and STILL have a Great Sex Life. His latest book, The Making of Mr Irresistible is rags to riches memoir. In recalling his life story, Larry shares how he is, what he calls, a successful failure undaunted by setbacks.

Larry’s business philosophy centres on one word: Irresistible – “Too tempting and too attractive to resist.” As Irresistible Consultant, Larry constantly works to ensure thebigword’s technology and services are irresistible to clients and customers. But his irresistible consultancy now expands beyond thebigword.

As a business mentor at Cornell Tech University in New York, Larry is helping post-doctoral associates to understand the Sales and marketing process and to ensure that their products are irresistible.

Larry runs a number of irresistible masterclasses for the business community in the UK and US and is a regular speaker at public events.
